Recovery

The first few hours are the most important in recovering a missing child.

Be prepared.
Have a identification kit for each child.
This kit should contain:

A recent picture of the child - preferably more than one. Snap shots may show the child in a more natural pose than professional pictures. Videos are very useful.

Fingerprints - these fingerprints are kept by the parents.

Even inexpensive ‘K-Mart’ ID kits are better than nothing.

Footprints are better for infants as they are easier to read to age three.

DNA sample - hair with roots attached, blood, or cheek swabs
This is the best and most accurate method of identification.

Child’s hair color, eye color, height and weight (keep current)

Contacts for current medical and dental providers

Notation of any scars, tattoos, birthmarks or other identifying characteristics.
